The Roundabout Theatre Company's
The 39 Steps is on the move again. The Alfred Hitchcock spoof will step into its third Broadway theater in two years, transfering from current home the Cort Theatre to the Helen Hayes Theatre beginning on January 20, 2009. The show will continue to play at its current location through January 11, 2009.
The 39 Steps originally opened as a limited engagement at the American Airlines Theatre on January 15, 2008, going on to win two Tony Awards for Sound Design and Lighting Design and the Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience. Following critical acclaim and solid box office numbers, the production transferred to the Cort on April 29, 2008.
The show presently stars Sam Robards, Jennifer Ferrin, Arnie Burton and Cliff Saunders in the story of Richard Hannay, a desperate man on the lam for a crime he didn't commit. Francesca Faridany and Jeffrey Kuhn will join the cast on October 28, replacing Ferrin and Saunders, respectively.
Adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchnan, the show features direction by Maria Aitken, sets and costumes by Peter McKintosh, lighting by Kevin Adams and sound by Mic Pool.
