In the Heights creator
Lin-Manuel Miranda, show orchestrator Bill Sherman and leading man Christopher Jackson will hit Joe's Pub on November 3, bringing their improvisational hip-hop project, Freestyle Love Supreme, to the stage for a live Election Eve concert.
Founded by Miranda and friends while students at Wesleyan University, Freestyle Love Supreme uses song, rap beats and suggestions from the audience to improvise live hip-hop riffs and narratives often with hilarious results. The group expanded upon its arrival in New York City several years ago, and has toured the world, performing at locations including The Edinburgh International Fringe Festival in Scotland, The HBO US Comedy Arts Festival in the United States, The Melbourne Comedy Festival in Australia and the Just For Laughs Festival in Canada.
Miranda gave a live demonstration of his hip-hop skills at the 2008 Tony Awards, when he freestyled his acceptance speech for Best Original Score of a Musical.
Two other members of the Freestyle Love Supreme troupe will join Miranda, Sherman and Jackson for the November 3 performance. The concert is brought to Joe's Pub as part of Ghostlight Records' Monday Night Concert Series.
