Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, who is about to return to Broadway as the scribe for Shrek The Musical, is about to take on the webbed wonder of Marvel Comics. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lindsay-Abaire is in final negotiations to write the Spider-Man 4 screenplay for Columbia Pictures. He’ll be working with Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi, who're both returning for another installment in the blockbuster franchise.
Lindsay-Abaire is best known for the Rabbit Hole, which won the Tony Award for Best Play and also received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. His other plays include Fuddy Meers, Kimberly Akimbo and Wonder of the World. He also penned the book for the Broadway musical High Fidelity.
Spider-Man 4 won’t be Lindsay-Abaire’s first brush with Hollywood. His adaptation of the novel Inkheart will hit theaters in January 2009. He’s also adapting Rabbit Hole for Nicole Kidman.
Shrek begins previews at the Broadway Theatre on November 8 and opens on December 14.
