Creative, moving, outstanding at the August Wilson Theatre
"The staging was phenomenal! The entire theatre transformed into a Cabaret and you are really there. Feel the emotion, feel the time and the danger and hear the voices soar. Redmayne is amazing! It's a standout on Broadway you should not miss! "

A dark and moving incarnation of Cabaret
"This version played up the ominous coming storm of Nazi Germany underlying the decadence of the club’s entertainment. Eddie Redmayne was excellent and even creepier than either Alan Cumming or Joel Grey.
I liked the feeling of being in an actual cabaret. Bibi Neuwirth was wonderful as was the supporting cast."

Wonderful adaptation. Chilling performance
"From the moment we entered, actually even before. We knew an amazing performance was coming. We were led to a back door, upon entering were greeted by an ensemble of musicians playing lively Moroccan tunes, given complementary Cherry Schops, and seated in a 80-ye old nightclub. Troupe was decadent, bazaar. Emcee was eccentric, mezmerizing. The story was new, and old. We forget the decadence of pre-war 1930’s decadence, but are reminded of the danger of nationalism and antisemitism. The performance teaches a history lesson, warns of present dangers, and delights the audience with talented performers in exotic pwrformances.
Would highly, highly recommend."

Best I've seen in 50 years
" I was and continue to be amazed at how engaging and deep the production values were. Your world totally transformed into pre war Berlin and captivated by the story without so much as a stick of scenery. The theater-in-the-round was magnificently produced and performed. Although they are quite pricy. I recommend the table seats. It made us part of the action."

Great show, Redmayne is a big cherry on the top
"Fantastic setup of the whole theater, and pre-shows. The show itself is clearly designed for viewers who have seen the Fosse film and maybe other Broadway versions of the same play, emphasizing a different emotional angle. And of course, seeing Eddie Redmayne live work was really incredible."

Great show!
"Not only was acting superb, it was nice having extra prologue before the show. The tables in front of the stage added a feeling of intimacy. We sat at a table, but didn’t order food ahead of time. However, you can order drinks and snacks at your table before the show."

Staging is magnificent!
"If you get the chance - see this show! It is an experience not to be missed. I didn’t know that I was a fan of Eddie Redmayne! He was an excellent Emcee. He came out to greet fans after the show. He was gracious and signed Playbills for a long while. It was a special treat to see Bebe Neuwirth on stage. She is a legend.
The stage is something to see. It’s on the round and the cast uses all of their space and involves and visits every area, even upstairs. Go see this. You won’t be disappointed!"

Immersive Experience
"We were in Row E of the mezzanine and still I felt like I was three feet away from the action. It was that explosive and affecting. The cast was superb, and not just Eddie Redmayne, Gayle Rankin, and Bebe Neuwirth. Also, Ato Blankson-Wood as Cliff, Steven Skybell as Herr Schultz, Hennry Gottfried and Ernst Ludwig, and Natascia Diaz and Fraulein Kost. They were all splendid!
I particularly loved how the Emcee (Redmayne!) especially, and to some extent also, the kit-kat girls, blended their sexuality with a kind of marionette body language (jerky movements, sudden stops), which made them seem not only sensual but also mechanical, as if even they and their oblivion and ribald performances were fueled by and fueling the Nazi machine outside of the club. Redmayne was masterful in this regad, as well as overall.
Part of the reason I felt so immersed in the show was the stagecraft--the use of the circular stage with many concentric circles that dropped and lifted actors on and off stage, as well as elevated them above the stage. This made for dramatic entrances and exits, but also many levels to the performances.
Speaking of levels, the musicians are located on either side of the auditorium up high above the action. On the mezzanine, we had a good view of them and could appreciate their many contributions to the drama on stage, not merely providing accompaniment for the singing.
The pre-show from 6:30-7:30 was tremendous as well, really setting the mood for the show and offering wonderful music and "kit-kat worthy" performances before entering the auditorium. We did the special meal in the Pineapple Room as well, which was dlicious, wonderfully executed, and offered private bathrooms without long lines--very much worth it.
I loved this show and thought every Tony nomination it received was well-deserved--only wish it would have won more of them. But it did win for scenic design, which was outstanding."
