"Fun humor sprinkled throughout show. Powerful songs and energized dance numbers keep you invested. There are some historical references. Some content may be lost on children but not inappropriate for them."

Exceeded Already High Expectations
"I saw Lea Michele back in 2023 in Funny Girl and met her. I have been a fan of her pretty much my entire life, since Spring Awakening and Glee. I knew that she'd be amazing, but she somehow surpassed that yet again. Her voice, her acting, her stage presence - it was all a masterclass in Broadway performance. If she doesn't finally get her Tony Award for this, I will be sorely disappointed. She absolutely deserves it.
I've known of Aaron Tveit since Wicked, Gossip Girl, Moulin Rouge, and eventually Sweeney Todd, so I had high expectations for his performance as well. He completely blew me away with his ability to mold himself into a different character than I'd ever seen him play before. The sarcastic, yet charming and funny, persona that he took on was so interesting and enjoyable to watch.
Nicholas Christopher was new to me, but I hope to see him expand his resume even more after Chess because he was absolutely astonishing. His vocals are out of this world.
Hannah Cruz also deserves her flowers because her voice and her charisma fit into this cast so perfectly.
The ensemble was perfect, lively, and filled with such a contagious energy that encapsulated the theater.
Give ALL of them their Tony Awards!
And GO SEE CHESS!"

BEST Musical Performance I’ve seen!
"This is by far the most intricate and vocally demanding show I have yet to see on Broadway, and it TRULY delivers an emotionally packed, technically advanced, absolutely mind-blowing masterpiece! This is a show that requires intense emotion, which the cast delivers in abundance! That being said, I cried during certain songs just because I was so moved by the angelic voices that I couldn’t hold back tears of pure elation! The choreography was intense and crisp and the set held endless surprises!
With that said, this show assumes the viewer has at least a basic understanding of the Cold War, as the entire Chess theme is multi-layered and centered around the conflict, and the characters’ back-stories are rooted in a war-torn era. Therefore it touches on some difficult subjects but doesn’t go so deep that it can’t be enjoyed for the other aspects, and there is very effective comic relief throughout.
I would not recommend this for young children, as they would have significant difficulty following the multi-layered plot, but as an adult who has seen many Broadway productions, this one has honestly impacted me the MOST and moved me like no other. That’s saying a lot!
If you enjoy exquisite harmonies and songs that “tear the house down” combined with amazing effects that combine intense emotion and historical drama, this will be a show you will remember forever! I can’t recommend this enough if you’re a theater lover!
(Although, I would not recommend this as a “first” Broadway show, as it is quite deep and requires a lot of concentration on what the actors are singing… this definitely requires “active listening” and concentration to follow the plot, while other shows are simple enough that you can just sit back and watch. But, if you’re an experienced theater goer, you’ll be BLOWN AWAY!)
Loved it! They tore the house down!! "

sixth time
"This was my sixth time seeing the show. I brought my
daughter this time and it was amazing to share it with her. The ensemble is amazing. Sarah and Katie smiling; dancing just gives me joy.
Bryce is hysterical and really makes the show light and happy. Hannah is so amazing and beautiful. Lea is beautiful and her voice was perfect last night: Aaron and Christopher are both so amazing it seems like its not real, lol, not to mention handsome. The music is insane. Go. I have tickets for 6 more shows. Go! "

Blown away by the cast
"I have been a huge fan of Chess since the 90's. I was thrilled about the revival. I came to see Lea Michelle, but in the end, all the leads blew me away. They were well chosen for their roles, and in particular, Nicholas Christopher delivered stellar singing and now my 15-year old can't stop listening to the soundtrack."

The best Broadway show we have seen ina long time.j
"Super the way the orchestra was visible arranged up and around the stage perimeter. The plot was fun and dance routines were very well done. Really enjoyed the music. Anatoly, Florence and Freddy were very special performers. Hard to believe that Lea Michele first appeared on Broadway at age 8 as Cosette in Les Miserables. One of my favorite musicals among many. Actually saw it performed by Stanford students on campus 15+ years ago. Recognized Cosette as a cheer leader at a Stanford basketball game some time later.

Blown Away
"Chess may be the best Broadway show I’ve ever seen. It tugged at every emotion. The voices were unbelievable and the acting was incredible. Lea Michelle oozes talent. She has an unforgettable voice. The last time I heard a voice like hers was when I heard Barbara Streisand in Washington DC 20 years ago! I can’t wait to see Chess again. "

Star cast and engaging story
"Wow, what a cast to see! Such a special experience seeing Lea Michele, Aaron Tveit, Nicholas Christopher. The story gets complex, but the humor, timing, and presence of the leads and Bryce Pinkham keep the story engaging. The One Night in Bangkok number is an amazing Act II opening. Each lead has a standout individual performance that showcases their star power. "

Chess- OMG
"I have liked Chess since it came out in london I the 80s. I loved it! Then the ny version ... Um .. there's a reason it didn't do well.
But In 2026 I went to Broadway to see it again & all I can say is OMG!! They redid it a third time. The story is roughly the same. The arbiter is still my favorite but as a narrator it told the story better.
Great story , great singing & choreography. GO SEE CHESS! ♟️"

Everything I hoped it would be
"I didn’t know that much about Chess the musical other than a few of the key songs. I wanted to see it due to Aaron Tveit who was amazing as always and was intrigued to see Lea Michelle who blew the audience away. Nicholas Christopher was outstanding as was the whole ensemble. The use of the Arbiter to narrate is genius and makes this accessible for those who may not know the plot (and he was also very funny). Don’t miss the chance to see this if you can - the best singing you’ll ever hear "

Incredible music and Powerful Singing
"Musical updated for 2026 from the original production of 1980.
Topical references and allusions were excellent.
The orchestra was slightly overmiked, causing lyrics to be drowned out during loud musical passages."

About
Chess
Chess is the iconic musical where power and passion collide, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. It’s America versus Russia at the World Chess Championship, where the espionage and romance are as complicated and exhilarating as the game itself. For the two players and the woman torn between them, everything—personal, professional, and political—is at risk… and nobody’s rules are the same.
