Some of the best performances on Broadway right now!
"Star power of course, but also smart, updated and relevant. They added some very current quips which the audience loved. The singing and performance were all amazing! Highly recommend. Much better and easier to follow than the original staged version. "

Modern rock opera
"The vocals are some of the best I've ever heard. This really is more of a modern rock opera than a musical. My young teenagers enjoyed it, but I'm not sure younger would."

Best singing talent currently on Broadway!
"Having seen over 250 Broadway musicals over several decades, Chess is definitely among my top 10! A must see, as the acting and especially the singing were exceptional. I expected Lea Michelle and Aaron Tveit to give amazing performances, acting and vocally, and they definitely did. But the standout was Nicholas Christopher whose voice was phenomenal, and Chess should be his breakout performance for anyone unfamiliar with his incredible voice! I can’t underetand how Chess received mixed reviews, as I found the performance last evening to warrant numerous Tony nominations for each of the principals. In fact, they deserved standing ovations for solos during the performance, they were just that GREAT!"

Powerhouse of a show!
"From the very beginning to the very end, I was captivated! This cast, this show, it was all just brilliant. I could have stood and clapped forever for them all. Shout out to the big guy in the chorus! Is Superman a musical? It should be, and you sir, could play the lead!"

"The singers were amazing. The book is problematic yet the show has a cult following. With an incredible score I can see why. Staged for the first time on Broadway since the 1980's. Go. GO!"

Thrilling music, great performances
"The vocal performances were thrilling (from the three leads and supporting cast) and generally true to the original soundtrack. There were a couple of new songs added and a few songs that were eliminated from this version but my favorites were still there. The orchestra was great, the staging was clever and the new narrator role brought some modern humor into the storyline which I thought was welcome. Overall, a wonderful theatrical experience! "

Chess is a chess master on Broadway.
"The cast is wonderful. The three leads, Leah, Aaron and Nicholas, have incredible voices and ranges. The rest of the cast was great too. I have listened to the music of ABBA my entire life, so to hear Benny’s and Bjorn’s music with Tim Rice’s lyrics, performed live on Broadway was a treat. Definitely see it! "

Brilliant Tour de Force
"CHESS entertained me royally for 2 1/2 hrs and then set my mind at work to parse what I had just seen and heard. The next morning I realized that when Florence says “Sometimes the best move is a Sacrifice” that was the theme of this rock opera. Sometimes you gotta give up what to want for what you need. Singing and music is superb and the choreography is simply mind bending. Go see this show!"

Loved it all!
"The voices were absolutely incredible - every last one! For me the two standouts were Nicholas Christopher and Bryce Pinkham, but the rest of the cast was uniformly strong.
It's a fun evening and so nice to have the CD from my youth make so much more sense!"

"A more cohesive story line and the score was delivered with purpose from a stellar cast. Everyone was on point and delivered a truly memorable performance. The ensemble cast also were amazing and punctuated the performance of the cast. It’s hard not to look at them as main cast in this performance.

Chess is amazing and entertaining
"I have loved this music since I was about 12 years old - there are so many songs that you can belt out and the cast does an amazing job! I suggest listening to the original concept album from 1984 - the current Broadway production of Chess runs very close to the 1984 original. I loved the Narrator and his humor- along with the rest of the cast - I would go see it again in a heartbeat."

About
Chess
Chess is the iconic musical where power and passion collide, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. It’s America versus Russia at the World Chess Championship, where the espionage and romance are as complicated and exhilarating as the game itself. For the two players and the woman torn between them, everything—personal, professional, and political—is at risk… and nobody’s rules are the same.
