Nice performances and good story line
"I absolutely loved seeing Lea Michele perform in this production and I was impressed by Nicholas Christofer's performance as well. Everyone did a great job from the Arbiter/Narrator to Freddie to Svetlana. Kudos to Danny Strong for the rewrite."

Wow!
"I loved Chess! My goodness! Lea Michele… I flew from Toronto just to see her and she blew me away! The acting was amazing but the singing was powerful and passionate. Nobody’s side, heaven help my heart, I know him so well, someone else’s story… phenomenal! I’m ready to book my trip to come back. Nicholas Christopher… Anthem and EndGame gave me chills! Aaron Tveit… Pity the child was chilling! The story was great and modern! The new book was hilarious! I loved it all I really did! They mixed love and betrayal together to create this masterpiece. I know it was a flop in the 80s but I think this is going to be a show people will talk about forever!"

A powerful new production
"A strong cast, a revamped book and stirring music makes this new production of Chess unforgettable. The once confusing story is revamped and the addition of the narrator keeps the plot consider and coherent. The leads and the ensemble breathe new life into the beautiful music . I plan on seeing it again!"

Evaluating Chess: Music, Story, and Staging”
"This was a great play-difficult subject matter portrayed beautifully. The narrator was amazing and helped keep it on the light side. Chess is an amazing game-transferrable to all areas of life. The cast was outstanding and the vocals out of this world. The orchestra and staging highly echoed the Cold War tension. Highly recommend."

I Loved Everything About It
"It exceeded all of my expectations It was everything I hoped it would be and so so much more. Our seats were perfect. Worth every penny. The stage and set were perfection and if Nicholas Christopher doesn't win a Tonny for his performance I'll be forever disappointed. Lea Michelle was born to play Florence and Aaron Tveits version of One Night in Bangkok was worth a standing ovation. "

Exceptional performances with outstanding score
"I’ve been listening to the original Chess recording (pre London debut) since it originally came out and it’s long been one of my favorites. I was never able to attend the actual show, so when I heard about the 2025 revival, I snagged a seat during previews. I’ve seen probably 40 broadway shows, and this ranks among the best. The three principals are exceptional, with excellent supporting performances by the rest of the cast/swing. The Arbiter was hilarious. "

Best New Show on Broadway!
"Great show from start to finish--superb production under the masterful, ingenious eyes of director, Michael Mayer. Talent galore, script revisions are perfect, choreography is off-the-charts as are lights, set design, video, and orchestra and singers are Broadway at its best. The leads are magnificient. Bravo to the entire production, on- and off-stage. It should run for years!!"

An amazing, timely show!
"I loved everything about this show. The music has always been a hit, but the story was equally compelling, and the Arbiter got many deserved laughs. The three leads can really sing, but their acting was also superb. I recommend!!"

A Grandmaster of a Production
"I had the ultimate pleasure of seeing the original production of 'Chess' on London's West End back in the 80's. It was superb and stayed in my heart all these years later. Freddie Trumper's entrance onto the stage was magical, an arogant man that you love to hate set in motion a wonderful story of obsession, love, and the ultimate quest to win. Unfortunately, I did not get to see New York's Broadway version. The songs that stick out for me are 'Pity the Child' and 'I Know Him So Well.' The current version is great as well, not without some major differences with a modern twist. I definitely missed the original opening scene, that beautiful number where the dancers were dressed as chess peices). I could have done without the current day political commentary as it is everywhere and unnecessary in a Broadway setting. We go to see shows to get away from that and the comments really weren't funny to some of us. All in all it was a fun evening out and I plan on seeing it again. The talent is off the charts!!"

About Chess

Chess is the iconic musical where power and passion collide, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. It’s America versus Russia at the World Chess Championship, where the espionage and romance are as complicated and exhilarating as the game itself. For the two players and the woman torn between them, everything—personal, professional, and political—is at risk… and nobody’s rules are the same.
