"There was just a complete lack of effort to make this a true Broadway experience. Where to begin? The set: what set? The band was on stage and was the biggest part of the set. It just seemed so lazy to not have a set design. Costumes? Ditto. The actors remained in the same costumes even as scenes/locations etc changed. Production. At one point several actors are just sitting on stools on the side of stage. Another point where there were 7 chairs placed for the jury, only one actor sat in the jury box. The entire production seemed like regional theater or even high school theater where they ran out of money for sets and costumes. On the upside, the music was great. But of course the music is the best part. Nothing shocking there. The performers have quality singing performances. The lead, Alysa Milano? She was ok. But surprisingly, she was outperformed by the actresses who played Velma and Mamma. I have never left a Broadway show and felt so underwhelmed and disappointed. I was so looking forward to this show and was actually bored. Where was the “razzle dazzle?” The production was mailed in. I cannot recommend this show at all. I am sad to say all this, but it is what it is….."

Not as good as years ago.
"I have seen Chicago 3 times now. Seen it about 15 years ago, 2 years ago and this past weekend. My daughter and I were disappointed on how much they changed it from 2 years ago. Not as much dancing and the lead role of Roxie was played by a reality show host and she was not near as good in the form of vocals or acting the part. It seemed more like a play rather than the old classic Chicago musical. I hate to be critical as there is so much work that goes into these productions but I feel they have changed the format for the worse not better. We went and seen Hells Kitchen and The Great Gatsby this past weekend also and they were amazing! So much action with dancing and beyond amazing vocals in the songs and the acting by the artists was flawless. I would recommend those Broadway shows over Chicago hands down. "

Good acting, poor show
"The actors and music were great. The scenography, costumes and overall production very much behind all other shows I’ve seen."

Underwhelming and Tired
"I know we all know the film. Yes, Chicago has been on broadway since 1994. But I think it’s time to retire show. The singing was winded whilst dancing. The dancers looked tired and spaced out. Good to Mama was played so straight and had no sass or appeal. "

Disappointing
"Extremely disappointing show that’s not up to standard. The cast couldn’t keep up with the show. The script has been turned into a comedy sketch and the essence of Chicago was entirely absent. Show needs a total overhaul. Not Broadway standard"

Just okay
"The production, set and performance was below average. Sadly, none of the characters are engaging. It's an old tired show which needs to be polished up. "

"I think I spent more money on my ticket than they did on costumes and production. Everything was good but might need to be pushed to off broadway or a revamp. Overpriced for sure."

Sparse
"Aside from there being absolutely no set design except for the orchestra dominating most of the stage, and no costume changes except for maybe some shoes it was okay. The performances were typical of what we would expect from a Broadway cast. Overall the show was disappointing in that some simple costume changes and set design would have made it more appealing."

Re: Disappointed
"Chicago was the third show that my daughter and I saw while in NYC. We were disappointed in the performances and would not recommend Chicago to others.
While most of the cast performances were very good, others seemed to miss steps and vocal opportunities. Overall, I didn’t feel like the cast worked well together. "

Skip Chicago
"Highly disappointing. This is the poorest Broadway production that I’ve ever seen; zero creativity, no set, horrendous costumes, average singing and dancing.

Huge Disappointment.
"A huge disappointment. While the cast was undeniably talented, the show felt outdated and lacked the magic to captivate a modern audience. The production stuck to its old version without any refreshing updates, leaving it feeling stale and uninspired. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it."

Lazy staging
"The movie is amazing - the stage play, not so much. The orchestra sits on stage while the singers parade in front of them. There is no set, so no visual cues to help the audience follow the story. No real costume changes - everyone wears black the entire performance, then at the end for the climactic scene in the cabaret - they add hats. I was disappointed as were several other audience members seated nearby."

Left at intermission
"So disappointed! Saw Chicago 20 yrs ago and it was so incredible. So I took my 30 yr old daughter to see it. The quality was so below par for broadway. The orchestra took up the majority of the stage, Roxy can’t sing or dance very well. It all felt very amateur. We actually left at intermission."

Spoilt
"I was so looking forward to the show and my expectations were crushed, the stage was solely taken over by the musicians leaving little space for the artists. The show was turned into a comic sketch twist on the real script and left a zero rating for me, what a pity after travelling the whole way from the UK very disappointed 😞 "

Extremely Disappointing
"I have never been so disappointed in an extremely expensive production. This was my first time seeing Chicago (have never seen the movie or read the play) and the story was extremely hard to follow. There is no set or costume changes and very minimal dialog so it was not clear what was happening. We left at intermission. Save yourself the money. The performers themselves are very talented but this particular production was a letdown. "
