August Wilson's content relevant
"The cast was amazing, sad to say the context of the play is still very relevant in 2026, the plantations look different but the physiological warfare is the same. "

Amazing Performances By All
"Debbie Allen did a superb job directing this play. Every actor did an excellent job of drawing you into their character and maintaining the audience's attention. They should all be recognized and rewarded for a job well done!!! I highly recommend that as an audience member that you silence or turn off your phone prior to entering the play so that you can truly relax and have an enjoyable time. The play draws on so many emotions which makes you want to be attentive to each scene in expectation of what's to happen next. "

What a spiritual experience!!
"I had the opportunity to experience Joe Turner’s Come and Gone and left deeply moved. August Wilson’s storytelling continues to remind us that healing is not simply about surviving what has happened to us, but about reclaiming who we are after loss, displacement, and trauma. The performances brought incredible depth to characters searching for belonging, identity, and connection. What struck me most was how relevant the themes remain today. The play explores what it means to find your voice, your people, and your place in the world after systems and circumstances have tried to take those things away. As a therapist, I was especially drawn to the ways the story reflects collective grief, resilience, and the human need to be witnessed. This production was powerful, thought-provoking, and beautifully executed. Highly recommend experiencing it if you have the opportunity."

The The play was awesome — truly powerful 👏🏽👏🏽
"I really enjoyed the play. I strongly suggest reading up on the theme of the play beforehand. The first act can feel a little slow and disjointed if you’re unfamiliar with the background, but just before the act ends, everything comes together beautifully. The second act is fast-paced, powerful, beautiful, heartbreaking, and ultimately so satisfying. Completely worth it to me. One note: Cedric and Taraji are important to the storyline and very entertaining, but Joshua Boone and Ruben Santiago-Hudson absolutely steal the show. They are the stars. "

About Joe Turner's Come and Gone

Set in 1911, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone unfolds in a Pittsburgh boarding house run by the steadfast Seth and warm-hearted Bertha Holly. Their home offers refuge to Black travelers navigating the upheaval of the Great Migration. Among them is Herald Loomis, a man on a quest to reunite with his lost wife—and to reclaim the self he was forced to abandon during seven years of forced labor under Joe Turner.

As buried traumas surface and spiritual forces awaken, Loomis’s journey becomes one of profound self-discovery. Around him, others seek connection, direction, and healing from a past marked by pain. Through poetic dialogue and vivid, deeply human characters, Wilson crafts a powerful meditation on identity, resilience, and renewal.
