Outstanding Performance

"The cast was great individually as well as collectively. It was an emotional rollercoaster that had you laughing as well as crying and always thinking. This play takes a deep dive into a number of themes dealing with love, loss, abandonment, hopelessness, hope, relationships, and community to name a few. You must have some depth of thought to fully understand all that is going on, but anyone can learn something from it and see reflections of themselves. At times I gut laughed. At times I sobbed. At times I was stunned. At no time did I not enjoy every minute. I'm glad I came! "

Black Excellence

"The play was amazing, I experienced so many different emotions throughout the play. All of the performances were absolutely amazing. I was totally captivated by how talented everyone was on the stage. And after the play ended, we were pleasantly surprised to see the cast come out and sign autographs and took pictures with all of us waiting outside. I have beautiful pictures of all of them. They were so gracious with their time and we were all so grateful and thank them repeatedly. I totally enjoyed every moment of that play, I didn’t want it to end."

For the love of black excellence

"I saw Joe Turners Come and Gone on June 20th on Broadway. I really enjoyed the play from beginning to end. What I loved was the writing and production of the play. Debbie Allen did a phenomenal job bringing this story to life and making it her own. The actors were all excellent and spot on in depicting black life in the early1900's. It is a must see before it leaves. Bravo to the cast and production! Each actor brought something special to the story and I love seeing black excellence. So glad I attended."

About Joe Turner's Come and Gone

Set in 1911, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone unfolds in a Pittsburgh boarding house run by the steadfast Seth and warm-hearted Bertha Holly. Their home offers refuge to Black travelers navigating the upheaval of the Great Migration. Among them is Herald Loomis, a man on a quest to reunite with his lost wife—and to reclaim the self he was forced to abandon during seven years of forced labor under Joe Turner.

As buried traumas surface and spiritual forces awaken, Loomis’s journey becomes one of profound self-discovery. Around him, others seek connection, direction, and healing from a past marked by pain.
