More please...
"While consistently amusing and outrageous, the show felt rushed and shorter than I was expecting."

A Creative Use of Satiric Comedy
"From beginning to end, the work is propelled by comedic dialogue, and the actors are all endowed with the power to make you laugh. It was disappointing that Titus’s Burgess was absent for our performance, but his understudy was very good. "

A Bit like x rated slapstick
"Definitely off color I found it hysterical but understand why some (history buffs) didn't like. They didn't want to think of Abe doing the things he did! "

Very well written and performed
"only negative is that the satire belittles the presidency and the positive image and reputation of President Lincoln."

Irreverent
"Hysterical, but definitely not for children. The actors were delightful and funny. Great physical comedy. Had difficult seeing the far left scenes (sofa) due to my seating, but otherwise, great show."

Not for the faint of heart or homophobes
"I really liked the story line. Took a while to warm up to it. Once I did I absolutely enjoyed it. High energy and great acting by all in the cast. Explosive ending. The Himalayan stair climb to the balcony will test you legs."

Good comedy
"I enjoyed the show. It was raunchier than I thought it would be, so not appropriate for kids."

Qualifiers regarding a recommendation.
"Not for everyone! Some people will find it crude in language. There were some very funny lines and I did guffaw out loud!"

My thoughts…
"I enjoyed the show but didn’t find it as funny as I expected. Much of the audience seemed to be laughing more than I was. I never thought of MTL as a stupid person & I don’t believe that she had a drinking problem. A little more fact & less nonsense might have made for a better show. I thought the final scene went on too long. "

Good show
"I enjoyed the show and found it funny. The premise is hysterical. I admit I found the show raunchy and the profanity extreme. Too much for me. But I still laughed. I have read that the show is appropriate for children 14+. Absolutely not. "

Vulgar but Betty Gilpin is great
"The show was pretty vulgar. Kind of shocking what is on Broadway now. Almost felt more like the sort of thing you would find at a gay club or a drag show. Except the lead played by Betty Gilpin was fantastic and she is obviously a super talent. She’s very funny and delivers an amazing performance. But overall it’s just kind of a gay romp/farce that’s pretty absurd and feels more like a long skit. Definitely do not bring anyone under 18 to this show "

Oh, Mary! was somewhat raunchy
"The actors were probably really good actors. I found the satire to be extreme and completely disrespectful to the Lincoln history. Probably the whole play was over my head ! I guess I didn’t get it."

Wouldn’t see again
"I was truly taken aback by the story line. The performers were excellent. Singing was very good. Extremely surprised by the story line, the excessive use of foul language and the brevity of the show. It was not what I expected. DEFINITELY NOT FOR CHILDREN!! I don’t think anyone under the age of 18 should be allowed. I think it behoves the show to indicate that the show has the use of adult language and mature topics!"

Excellent cast
"Bizarre and farcical take on the Lincoln marriage. An excellent cast pulls it off; but I wouldn’t try to duplicate it."

Forgettable
"Mary, the lead character was absolutely terrific. We were in the front row, and every moment of her performance was outstanding. The play is very light, not much to comment about. I would not recommend it."

Just okay
"I was disappointed with this show. I appreciated how the actors really gave their best. They were all very talented. But the plot was a little too silly even for a farce, and I didn’t think the raunchy tone helped. It was overpriced and not a good value in my opinion. "

Disappointed
"After all the hype I was disappointed. It was somewhat funny but not that funny. I don't mind broad humor but it was a bit much at times. I am gay so that wasn't it. It just didn't click very much with me."

About Oh, Mary!

Oh, Mary! is a dark comedy about a miserable, suffocated Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Unrequited yearning, alcoholism, and suppressed desires abound in this 80-minute one-act play that finally examines the forgotten life and dreams of Mrs. Lincoln, through the lens of an idiot (playwright Cole Escola).

Declared “one of the best comedies in years” by The New York Times, Oh, Mary! received Tony Awards for Best Leading Actor in a Play (Cole Escola) and Best Direction of a Play (Sam Pinkleton), Drama League Awards for Outstanding Play and Outstanding Direction of a Play, as well as a special citation from the New York Drama Critics’ Circle. It was named a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
