"I went in thinking it was just about complex family dynamics but I left in tears of guilt, understanding and connection to characters that mirrored my own experiences so deeply that it felt unreal. I went with my daughter who called me the next morning and said she was still trying to process her emotions and feelings, as she saw echoes of her relationship with her son, my grandson, and how she's navigated his "differences" throughout his life. We both were struck by the depth of Ms. Jasper's love, even when it was self-serving, and by Naz's strength in becoming who he was meant to be in a world that doesn't always celebrate black boy joy when it's not wrapped in the packages society sees as "normal". I pray that every mother of every black child that is nuerodivergent can see this play before it ends it's run. We are both richer for having experienced it!"
