Funny but deep!
"Excellent play. It deals with many complex issues in a manner that's "real". It has a number of surprises which will make you laugh one minute but sad the next. The similarities to one of Black American's political families is uncanny. Go see it. You will not be disappointed. "

Intriguing and Entertaining
"The characters were well played and the storyline was both funny and in some ways shockingly bold. This family is just like mine and yours…….secrets abound but the truth leaks out even when they tried so hard to keep it hidden. Great acting….very professionally done!"

The Broadway Play Purpose
"Purpose is a brilliant play. The cast, especially the lead actor are outstanding. We highly recommend."
"I loved EVERYTHING about this play. The script was superb, the acting was among the best I have ever witnessed and the scenery was awe-inspiring. (I am still trying to figure out how that snow could appear to pile up on the windows.) I have never attended a play where I rated everything FIVE STARS."

Highly recommended a must see.
"First I loved the projection of every actor/actress voice. The scenery was very fitting for the rollercoaster ride that was this play. Enjoyed the narration because it was just enough so the audience could follow along with the characters and their movements. The play it's self was hilarious from beginning to end. There was so much realism involved. Touching on civil rights, activism, family drama, mental health issues, lgbtq issues and more. I highly recommend you go see "Purpose". If u have a mature 13yr old or older child take them with you, they'll love it too."

Black Lives Contain Much Internal Matter
"The portrayal of Black life is often limited to the painful aspects of American history, such as slavery, racism, and discrimination.
And although these unresolved national issues continue to harm us daily. However, Black people in America also experience the same existential challenges as anyone else in the human experience. We often live daily with untreated psychological wounds, which cause us to wound others. We love and lose love; we sometimes hurt one another, but we also heal each other.
We make personal mistakes and achieve extraordinary things through our individual contributions. We embody both our outer Blackness and our inner sacredness selves—imperfect in our behaviors yet perfectly made. I greatly appreciate this play because it presents Black people not merely as background character noise, or as furniture in a national theater narrative solely focused on "race," but as a complex group of diverse individuals who engage deeply (or not so deeply) with their inner worlds. It highlights our conflicts and our resilience to love one another individually despite the daily anti-loving challenges we face. Alas, may I be so bold in stating that I think the playwright is saying, ultimately, we are...human.

Life told in a few words
"I love that the Naz introduced the audience into his world that personifies the Real world. I was captivated by the truths told. Oftentimes open and honest conversation amongst friends, co-workers, especially families are stunted only allowing for safe talks.
I am definitely going to see this show again as I am certain to peel away more layers of truth."

Fascinating Performance
"Performance within a performance. Often true in many families. Pretense and pretending. Hiding truths, smiles of indifference instead of frowns of disappointment. It really resonated with me. Each character was layered & complex and the cast executed it perfectly! I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a must see "

About
Purpose
For decades, the influential Jasper family has been a pillar of Black American Politics: civil rights leaders, pastors and congressmen. But like all families, there are cracks and secrets just under the surface. When the youngest son Nazareth returns home to Illinois with an uninvited friend in tow, the family is forced into a reckoning with itself, its faith and the legacies of Black radicalism. Spirited, hilarious and filled with intrigue, Purpose is an epic family drama from one of the country’s most celebrated voices.
