Great show for fans of the series but stands in it’s own right
"I went with my wife on a last-minute decision. She is a fan of the series (though not any kind of super-fan). I haven’t really followed it though I’m aware of it.
The show is essentially a prequel to the series and sets up the back-story of some of the main characters.
It does have really amazing special effects; honestly some of the best I’ve ever seen in a stage production. The story itself stands up without the effects. The characters are well developed and the plot is definitely intriguing. I had no issues following along even though I’m not really immersed in that particular universe.

"Myself along with my wife and daughter (21 year old) took in The Stranger Things First Shadow on a recent trip to New York and absolutely loved it. From the quality of the acting to the special effects it was absolute top level. We did notice some young children in the audience but to be honest I don't believe it suitable for children under 12 years. I don't believe you need to be necessarily a fan of the show but obviously it will make more sense if you are. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and would highly recommend."

"Feeling the nostalgia with Stranger Things finally ending its run this year, some family members and I opted to go see the show so we could have the full experience before the finale.
