Sex Scribes Pen Stage Soap Opera Cedar City Falls

A quartet of former Sex and the City scriptwriters are joining forces to write a stage soap opera titled Cedar City Falls: A Midwest Conflict, according to Variety. The show’s eight “episodes” will play on Tuesday nights beginning October 6 at the Cell Theater and later Brooklyn’s Galapagos Theater, directed by John Ruocco. Proceeds will go to charity.

The initial cast of more than 20 will include Grant Shaud, Peter Frechette and Talia Balsam, with Jesse L. Martin as narrator of the first week’s episode. Future narrators may include Martin’s Rent co-star Daphne Rubin-Vega and Balsam’s husband and fellow Mad Men star, John Slattery.

Cedar City Falls was dreamed up by Liz Tuccillo, co-author of He’s Just Not Into You. The scribe recruited fellow Sex writers Elisa Zuritsky, Julie Rottenberg and Cindy Chupack to work on the stage show, described as a comic small-town saga. In the first episode, a mentally unstable man (Shaud) insults a fellow member of the local choir, and their conflict explodes into a town war.

Proceeds from Cedar City Falls will benefit a different charity each week, including Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders and the Center for Constitutional Rights.
