Circumcise Me, a new comedy written by and starring Yisrael Campbell, has booked an off-Broadway engagement at the Bleecker Street Theatre. Performances begin November 1, with opening night set for November 11. A director will be named shortly.
In his New York theatrical debut, comedian Yisrael Campbell (who was born Catholic and changed his name from Christopher) takes the audience on a personal journey through his struggles with drugs and alcohol and his eventual salvation in the Jewish faith, including undergoing three (!) of the medical procedures that give his show its title. A press announcement promises that Circumcise Me “will have women howling with laughter and men squirming in their seats.” A biographical documentary of the same name is currently playing in film festivals around the country.
The creative team includes scenic and video design by Aaron Rhyne and lighting and sound design by Perchik Kreiman-Miller. Circumcise Me is produced by Evelyn McGee Colbert and Eva Price of Maximum Entertainment Productions.
