Casting has been announced for a new version of Henrik Ibsen's Ghosts, making its debut at the West End's Duchess Theatre in 2010. Helmed by actor Iain Glen in his directorial debut, the classic play begins performances on February 11, 2010, with opening set for February 23, 2010.
In addition to directing, Glen will star as Pastor Manders opposite previously announced leading lady Lesley Sharp as Helene. The pair are joined by Harry Treadaway (the BBC's Afterlife, Recovery) as Oswald, Jessica Raine (Gethseman at The National Theatre) as Regine and Malcolm Storry (the West End's The Lord of the Rings, Life is a Dream at the Donmar Warehouse) as Engstrand.
Ibsen's 1881 play Ghosts is considered one of the scribe's greatest works. The story follows the undoing of widow Helene Alving and her son, Osvald, as a wave of dark secrets and desires crashes down following the death of her husband.
Ghosts will be designed by Stephen Brimson Lewis, with lighting by Oliver Fenwick, and sound and music by Richard Hammarton. The show is co-presented by Thelma Holt and Nica Burns.
The limited engagement ends May 15, 2010.
