Elaine Stritch has added a final performance of her acclaimed cabaret show Elaine Stritch Singin’ Sondhim…One Song at a Time at the Carlyle Hotel in celebration of her 85th birthday on February 2. The one-show extension was suggested by Christine Ebersole, who will now begin her previously scheduled run at the Carlyle on February 3.
Carlyle managing director Erich Steinboch asked Stritch to spend her birthday onstage, saying in a statement, “I know the evening will be one of the most legendary in the Carlyle’s storied history.” Stritch is quoted as replying, “OK, I’ll do it. But damn it if Christine Ebersole isn’t going to be up there with me!”
Described as the culmination of a personal and professional relationship that has spanned four decades, “Elaine Stritch Singin’ Sondheim…One Song at a Time offers the star’s interpretation of her favorite Sondheim songs, under the music direction of Rob Bowman and using orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. The composer turns 80 on March 22.
