Although director Tyler Perry released a dream cast list back in September for his feature film version of Ntozake Shange's 1975 play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf and boasted that six of the 10 acclaimed actresses had agreed to star, the final line-up tells a different story.
Just two of those previously mentioned ladies--pop star Mariah Carey and Kimberly Elise--will appear in the film, according to interviews Perry gave at the New York premiere of his newest film Why Did I Get Married Too?. But the movie's cast is nothing to sneeze at; joining Carey and Elise will be Whoopi Goldberg, Janet Jackson, Tony winner Phylicia Rashad, Jurnee Smollett, Kerry Washington (Race), Loretta Devine and Macy Gray. Perry is also said to have a role in the film, but is hopefully keeping his previous promise that his drag alter ego Madea will not appear.
The film is scheduled to start shooting in June in New York City, eyeing a January 14, 2011 release date.
