It felt like old-home week at the Booth Theatre on May 17, when Brian d’Arcy James, star of the original off-Broadway production of Next to Normal, gave his first performance as anguished dad Dan in the hit musical’s Broadway company. James was reunited with Jennifer Damiano (as daughter Natalie) and Adam Chanler-Berat (as Henry), both of whom appeared in the show at Second Stage before it was revised and remounted on the Great White Way. Though an ill Alice Ripley had to miss James’ initial return, the mood backstage was festive as the company gathered after the show for cake and snapshots.
