Glee creator Ryan Murphy, who centers the October 26 episode of the popular series on The Rocky Horror Show, may be digging deeper into the cult musical about a “sweet transvestite Transylvanian.” According to Deadline.com, the rising film director is being courted to direct a full-scale movie remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the beloved 1975 film version that featured Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Meat Loaf and Barry Bostwick in its cast.
Murphy, who directed Julia Roberts in the summer film Eat Pray Love, already has his eye towards other theater-related film projects in the works. Most prominent is the long-awaited movie version of Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart, which will star Mark Ruffalo and could start shooting in spring 2011. Murphy’s also in consideration for the big screen version of the Broadway blockbuster Wicked.
The redo of The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be produced by Fox 2000.
