Jonathan Lewis’ Our Boys, a military play based on his own experiences, will play a limited 12-week engagement at the West End’s Duchess Theatre. Helmed by Journey’s End director David Grindley, the production will star Cian Barry (One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest), Arthur Darvill (TV's Doctor Who) and Laurence Fox (TV's Lewis). The play begins performances September 26, with an official opening scheduled for October 3.
Our Boys is an account of the tribulations, tedium and terror that young soldiers face when recovering from injuries incurred in the line of duty. Five young soldiers are killing nothing but time when their daily routine of TV, lonely hearts ads and light-hearted banter is shattered by the arrival of an unwelcome authority figure: a young officer fresh from Sandhurst. The camaraderie of this unlikely band of brothers is soon jeopardized by a dangerous incident and an act of betrayal. With charges of misconduct looming, accusations fly, and then the fighting really starts.
The production reunites the Tony-nominated design team from Broadway’s Journey’s End including set designer Jonathan Fensom, lighting designer Jason Taylor and sound designer Gregory Clarke.
