After strong showings at the Tony Awards, new musicals Newsies and Once scored big box office numbers in the week following the ceremony's telecast. Newsies broke the box office record at the Nederlander Theatre for a third time, taking in $1,024,516 in ticket sales, while Once had its best box office week to date with $955,362 worth of receipts. Fresh off Nina Arianda's Tony win, Venus in Fur saw its numbers jump over $200,000 during its final week of performances. Other Desert Cities and Don't Dress for Dinner also finished their Broadway runs. While the Rock of Ages movie might not have been a huge hit during its opening weekend, the film is certainly bringing attention to the show as the long-running musical played to nearly full houses at 98.41% capacity.
