The musical adaptation of How the Grinch Stole Christmas will bring Whoville back to New York City this December. The musical is set to play the Theater at Madison Square Garden December 13 through 30. No casting has been announced.
Based on Dr. Seuss’ classic holiday tale of the same name, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is the story of a green, remorseful creature who lives on a mountain north of Whoville. When he is disturbed by the noisy Christmas celebration going on in Whoville, he vows to prevent Christmas from happening and poses as Santa Claus to remove all presents from the town. The show features a book and lyrics by Timothy Mason and music by Mel Marvin.
Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas was originally conceived and directed by Jack O’Brien at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, California. The production transferred to Broadway’s Hilton Theatre on November 8, 2006, directed by Matt August and starring Patrick Page as the Grinch. The musical was revived the following holiday season, with Page reprising his role as the Grinch.
