Human, a new play written by and starring Chazz Palminteri, is eyeing a Broadway run in the fall of 2013, according to a production spokesperson. A reading of the show will feature Oscar winner Mira Sorvino, Tony nominee Jeremy Shamos and Australian pop singer Sophie Monk. Jerry Zaks, who helmed Palminteri's breakthrough hit A Bronx Tale, will direct the new piece.
Set in Central Park, Human follows a Wall Street banker (Palminteri) who has a bizarre encounter with a stranger (Shamos) while sitting on a park bench late at night.
Palminteri has previously appeared on Broadway in his self-penned play A Bronx Tale. His many film credits include The Usual Suspects, Analyze This, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints and Hurlyburly. Sorvino earned an Oscar for Mightly Aphrodite. Her other films include Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, The Replacement Killers, Summer of Sam and Quiz Show. Shamos, who will appear on Broadway this fall in a new revival of Glengarry Glen Ross, received a Tony nomination for Clybourne Park. He has also appeared on Broadway in Elling, The Rivals and Reckless. A veteran of Australia's TV talent show Popstars, Monk's film and TV credits include Date Movie, Entourage and Sex and Death 101.
Human will be produced by Scott and Brian Zeilinger.
