Broadway vet Aasif Mandvi has dropped out of the upcoming NBC pilot The Gates, according to TVline.com. Greg Germann, best known for his role as Richard Fish on the '90s sitcom Ally McBeal, will replace Mandvi. Germann will join previously announced stars Christina Kirk (Clybourne Park), Kathleen Rose Perkins and Ken Marino.
Written by comedy duo Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith (The King of Queens) and directed by Marc Buckland, The Gates follows the interactions of parents at the front gates of an elementary school as they drop off and pick up their children. The new series is based on a popular British series of the same name. Germann takes over the role of an intense Ivy League-educated lawyer who pushes his kids way too hard to succeed.
No stranger to the stage, Germann has appeared on Broadway in Biloxi Blues and Boeing-Boeing. He appeared off-Broadway in Assassins, Only You, Dearly Departed, Born Guilty and Found a Peanut.
