Brooke Shields to Direct Chicago at the Hollywood Bowl

Broadway vet Brooke Shields has signed on to direct an upcoming three-night-only run of the musical Chicago at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. According to The Los Angeles Times, Shields, who has appeared in both the Broadway and West End productions of the hit show, will join conductor Rob Fisher for what will mark her directing debut. The musical will run at the Hollywood Bowl July 26 through 28.

"My passion for Chicago began decades ago, purely as a fan. Years later, after having a dance session with Annie Reinking, she asked me to join the Chicago company. I will never forget her endorsement of me," Shields said in a statement. "I have repeatedly been surprised by how current the piece remains and how relevant the themes are. The score, the choreography and the book are, I believe, some of the best and most enduring ever."

In addition to Chicago, Shields has appeared on Broadway in Grease, Cabaret, Wonderful Town and The Addams Family. Her film and TV credits include Pretty Baby, The Blue Lagoon, Suddenly Susan, That '70s Show and Lipstick Jungle.
