With the Polar Vortex lingering on, we here at Broadway.com have let the Frozen fantasies go and instead been daydreaming of musicals set in places with sunny skies and no snow on the horizon. So we wanted to know in our weekend poll, which warm weather tuner do you want to escape to? The results are in and Mamma Mia! they’re close.
1. In The Heights—22%
Grab a spot on the stoop outside the bodega and relax with a tasty piragua de mango! 22% of Broadway fans want to beat the heat In the Heights with Usnavi, Nina, Benny, Vanessa and their pals. Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegria Hudes’ hit musical features tons of balmy scenes. Don’t forget, a summer heat wave in Washington Heights could cause a blackout—but the breeze from the Hudson River and a dazzling fireworks display will surely distract you from the lack of air conditioning.
2. Mamma Mia!—21%
Voulez-vous to go to a Greek island? Turns out 21% of you want to run away to ABBA-land and we're in complete agreement. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! After midnight, before midnight, we don’t mind, just as long as there’s no sludge in sight. We definitely have a dream of being Dancing Queens on Kalokairi, with an adoring finace, or maybe multiple men to take a chance on us.
3. Aladdin—15%
It's totally understandable why 15% of you are wishing you could rub a magic lamp and escape on a flying carpet a million miles away to adventure, to romance, to somewhere there's no need for a scarf unless it's of the flowing silk variety. The good news? You'll soon be able to experience a whole new world of Arabian Nights with Adam Jacobs and Courtney Reed at the New Amsterdam Theatre right here on Broadway.
