A campy parody of all those wretched 40s and 50s Christmas films you watched as a kid is heading to Theatre Row this holiday season! Todd Michael’s The Asphalt Christmas will play a limited engagement December 4 through December 21 at The Lion Theatre. Opening night is set for December 5.
Directed by Lawrence Lesher, the cast includes Todd Michael as Dixie, with Chris Kateff as Father O’Day, David L. Zwiers as Sister Bernadette, Meg Mark as Veda, Timothy J.Cox as Moose/Ziggy/Eddie, Matt Harris as Mickey, Courtney Cook as Torchy/Sister Joseph/Bubbles/Heloise and Alex Pappas as Warden/Willard/Joe/Father McLaughlin.
The Asphalt Christmas is for those aged 16 and over and is an insane spoof of Hollywood Christmas films. The show tells the story of St. Celestine’s annual holiday pageant, a “possessed” 15 year old girl, her long-lost burlesque queen mother with a heart of gold, a singing priest with a past, and a couple of nuns who must deal with the devil within their convent walls. Betrayal, lust and eggnog—what more could anyone want at Christmas?
The production will feature costume design by David L. Zwiers and sound and light design by Louis Lopardi. The show was first presented in 2011 at Theatre Row’s Studio Theatre.
