Rita Moreno Set for Jane the Virgin
EGOT-winning legend Rita Moreno has been tapped for Jane the Virgin and will make her debut in Episode 18. According to TV Line, the West Side Story actress will play Jane’s paternal grandma— or “Glam-ma”—and the protective mom to soap star Rogelio De La Vega. If you weren’t tuning into The CW’s latest hit series already, now you’ve no excuse! Moreno was most recently seen on screen opposite Cheyenne Jackson in Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks.
Is Evening at the Talk House Aiming for B'way?
The U.K.'s National Theatre recently revealed its upcoming season and the New York Post writes that we should expect Wallace Shawn‘s Evening at the Talk House, a new play that will run at the Dorfman Theatre from November, to transfer to Broadway in spring 2016. We will keep an eye on it! Meanwhile, the National announced today that Episodes star Stephen Mangan has boarded the previously reported comedy Rules for Living, which will begin performances at the Dorfman on March 24.
Honorary Tony Winner Peter Neufeld Dead at 78
Peter Neufeld, a longtime Broadway General Manager and Producer, died on January 27 at the age of 78 in N.J., after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. In 1971, in partnership with R. Tyler Gatchell Jr., he founded Gatchell & Neufeld, Ltd. and worked on many shows including Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Cats, Annie and Sweeney Todd. Following the death of Gatchell in 1993, Neufeld closed the company and turned his attentions to serving the theater industry as a volunteer at a number of AIDS organizations. In 2005, Neufeld was awarded a Tony honor for a lifetime of excellence in the theater. He is survived by three nephews and their families—our thoughts at Broadway.com are with them.
Geoffrey Rush to Play Oliver! Composer
Geoffrey Rush will headline Vadim Jean’s Consider Yourself. Deadline reports that the Tony and Oscar winner will play Lionel Bart in the musical feature about the Oliver! composer's real-life rags to riches tale. Rush will be joined by Tony nominee Stephen Fry along with Olivia Colman, Eddie Marsan, Matt Lucas, Michelle Dockery and Al Weaver.
