While An American in Paris did not take home the big prize at the 2015 Tony Awards, the new musical doesn’t have much to fear. In the week preceding Broadway’s biggest night, the production landed once again in the top five grossing shows, joining perennial favorites The Lion King, Wicked, Aladdin and The Book of Mormon. We expect that the two big winners, Fun Home and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which each took home five awards including Best Musical and Best Play, respectively, will reap their rewards in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Airline Highway and It‘s Only a Play took their final bows over the weekend, and The Visit, which had been struggling at the box office and went home empty-handed, will close on June 14. It Shoulda Been You, Gigi and Hand to God also face low numbers; but it’s possible their presence on the broadcast will give them at least a temporary boost.
