10 Things I Hate About You Musical Sets 2027 Broadway Premiere Date

The musical adaptation of the 1999 teen romantic comedy, 10 Things I Hate About You, will begin performances on Broadway exactly one year from today on August 17, 2027. 10 Things I Hate About You features a book by Golden Globe winner Lena Dunham and Jessica Huang, music and lyrics by Carly Rae Jepsen and Grammy winner Ethan Gruska, direction and choreography by two-time Tony winner Christopher Wheeldon and music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by two-time Tony and Grammy winner Tom Kitt. Casting, additional creative team and theater information will be announced at a later date.

A retelling of William Shakespeare’s 1594 play The Taming of the Shrew, 10 Things I Hate About You takes place in the halls of Padua High. Amid the crushes, cliques and teenage angst, two sisters set out to define themselves on their own terms. This new musical is about growing up, discovering yourself and refusing to live by others’ expectations.

Dunham is an award-winning actor, writer, director and producer, best known for HBO’s hit series Girls. Her other works include Too Much, Treasure and Catherine Called Birdy. Her recent memoir Famesick is a bestseller. Huang’s work includes Mother of Exiles, The Paper Dreams of Harry Chin, Blended 和 (Harmony): The Kim Loo Sisters and The Birth of the Pill. Jepsen first rose to international prominence in 2012 with “Call Me Maybe,” later starring in the 2014 Broadway production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella and in Fox’s Grease: Live. Gruska is a Grammy winner for his work on boygenuis' "The Record," which was awarded Best Alternative Music Album in 2024. Wheeldon is a Tony winner for his choreography in both An American in Paris and MJ. Kitt is a Pulitzer Prize Award winner for Next to Normal.
