Broadway.com has learned that when Sarah Jones' Bridge & Tunnel transfers to the Great White Way next season, it will likely call the Helen Hayes Theatre its home. The acclaimed one-woman show is expected to open at the small Broadway house in the spring.
In Bridge & Tunnel, 14 characters all portrayed by Jones travel the roads of assimilation to tell the story of American change in an ever-changing America. Mohammed, a charismatic Pakistani accountant, Mrs. Ling, the Chinese mother adjusting to her daughter's alternative lifestyle and Nereida, a young Latina with a quick wit and an even faster tongue, are just a few of Jones' gallery of characters.
Bridge & Tunnel is currently running through August 15 at 45 Bleecker, where it opened on February 12 to rave reviews. Jones recently earned an Obie Award for her performance in the show.
The Helen Hayes is currently occupied by Golda's Balcony, which has not posted a closing notice.
A spokesperson for Bridge & Tunnel said it was premature to comment on a Broadway house for the show.
