Actors' Fund to Present Hair Concert Sept. 20

After wildly popular concert versions of Dreamgirls, Funny Girl and Chess, The Actors' Fund of America has chosen another well-loved Broadway musical for its fourth annual benefit concert. On September 20, 2004, a to-be-announced cast of stars will perform Hair at the New Amsterdam Theatre.
Hair, subtitled "The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical," opened at the Biltmore Theatre on Broadway on April 29, 1968 after a successful run at off-Broadway's Public Theater. Featuring music by Galt MacDermot and book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni, Hair celebrates the uninhibited world of social dropouts and their opposition to the draft and the Vietnam War. Songs from the score include "Aquarius," "Where Do I Go," "Easy to be Hard" and "Let the Sunshine In." Hair was revived briefly on Broadway in 1977 and at City Center Encores! in 2001.

The Actors' Fund concert of Hair will be co-directed by Devanand Janki and Christopher Gattelli. Seth Rudetsky, who has led the past three successful concerts, will once again serve as musical director. Casting for the one-night-only event will be announced shortly.
