Busch & May Premieres Set for MTC in 2005

Two world premieres will round-out Manhattan Theatre Club's 2004-2005 season. Charles Busch's Our Leading Lady will open on MTC's Stage I on March 8 and Elaine May's After the Night and the Music will have its Broadway bow at the Biltmore Theatre on May 19.
Our Leading Lady focuses on real-life 19th century American stage luminary Laura Keene, who is preparing to appear at the Ford's Theatre on the fateful night when Abraham Lincoln will be in the audience. MTC artistic director Lynne Meadow, who helmed Busch's smash The Tale of The Allergist's Wife, will reunite with the author for this piece.
A spokesperson could offer no description of After the Night and the Music, but one would think the title is taken from lyrics within Howard Dietz and Arthur Schwartz's semi-sad love song "You and the Night and the Music." Daniel Sullivan, who is also helming the Biltmore's second show of the season, Brooklyn Boy, will direct.

As previously reported, MTC will also present John Patrick Shanley's Doubt on Stage I, Jeffrey Hatcher's A Picasso and Nilo Cruz's Beauty of the Father on Stage II and Craig Lucas' Reckless and Donald Margulies' Brooklyn Boy at the Biltmore as part of its 2004-2005 season.
