Casting Set for Lippa's Princess Premiere
Mauzy, who will play the title character Sara Crewe, is best known for playing Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light. Her regional musical theater credits include You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Annie, Annie Warbucks and the Goodspeed mounting of Lizzie Borden.
King is set to play nasty headmistress Miss Minchin in A Little Princess. Her musical theater credits include On the Town, Guys and Dolls, Happy End and Tonight at Eight-Thirty. Her other stage credits include Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Night Sky, Camino Real, Arcadia, The Play's the Thing, Measure for Measure, The Norman Conquests, Hold Please and The Fourth Wall.
Based on Francis Hodgson Burnett's novel of the same name, the musical A Little Princess features book and lyrics by Brian Crawley Violet and music by Lippa off-Broadway's The Wild Party. The show, directed by Susan H. Schulman, is scheduled to have its world premiere at TheatreWorks in Palo Alto, California from August 25 through September 19. In addition to the cast members mentioned above, the mounting will feature Molly Bell as Miss Amelia, C. Kelly Wright as Aljana, Jason Dendy as Pasko, Remy Zaken as Becky, Brian Herndon as M. Puliakov, Lianne Marie Dobbs as Queen Victoria, Lyndsay Fay as Lavinia, Hayley Steele as Jesse, Sophie Oda as Nora, Courtney Stokes as Ermengarde, Lizzi Jones as Lottie and Catherine Smith as Jane. Carmichael Blankenship, Dawn Burroughs, Jesse Nager, Levensky Smith, Dennis Stowe, Asmeret Ghebremichael and Maia Evwaraye-Griffin will comprise the ensemble.
