Lavery's Easter and LaBute's Fat Pig Set for MCC

MCC Theater will present a new play by Frozen scribe Bryony Lavery, entitled Last Easter, and the premiere of Neil LaBute's Fat Pig during its 2004-2005 season. Both authors had plays done at MCC during the 2003-2004 season.
Last Easter centers on a woman dying of cancer, June. Her best friends, Heather, Joy, and Gash, embark on a whirlwind journey to find a cure, whisking her from her home in London all the way from Texas to Lourdes, where she is thoroughly dunked in the holy water. They're all theatre folk, so their lunatic pilgrimage is filled with magical lighting and musical effects including drag acts and a ghostly stagehand who appears magically like a dream. The play will reunite the Frozen team of MCC, Lavery and director Doug Hughes. It will begin a six-week run off-Broadway on September 15.
MCC is currently presenting LaBute's The Distance from Here. Fat Pig centers on a man who is dating an overweight woman. His friends make fun of her, but, will he listen? The play traces the courtship of two people who truly care for one another set against a world that ridicules and ostracizes those who do not fit into a Hollywood realm of ideal beauty and scathingly questions the superficial values of the world of today. The dark piece, directed by the author, is scheduled to run from November 17 to January 8, 2005 .
