When the Worth Street Theater production of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart returns from its two-week hiatus on June 15, it will have a new leading lady. Lisa Kron is taking over for Joanna Gleason leaving to star in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels as Dr. Emma Brookner.
Kron is no stranger to the Public Theater, where The Normal Heart is playing through August 15. Her solo play 2.5 Minute Ride had its New York premiere in 1999 at The Public. It received an Obie Award and Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for Best Solo Show. Her latest play Well recently completed an acclaimed Obie Award-winning run at The Public. Her other credits include the role of Rabbi Sharon in Paul Rudnick's Most Fabulous Story Ever Told and guest artist in the modern dance piece The Descent Beckons with Susan Marshall & Company.
Headlined by Raúl Esparza the cast of this production of The Normal Heart also currently features Richard Bekins, Fred Berman, McCaleb Burnett, Mark Dobies, Jay Russell, Billy Warlock and Paul Whitthorne. This show, directed by David Esbjornson who took over for Jeff Cohen mid-rehearsals, received mixed-to-positive reviews when it opened at the Public Theater on April 21. Performances of the drama were cancelled from June 1 through June 13 due to scheduling and casting issues.
