There will soon be no joy at the Variety Arts. Broadway.com has learned The Joys of Sex will end its short run at the off-Broadway house on June 13.
The Joys of Sex, which is subtitled "A Naughty New Musical" features lyrics by Melissa Levis, music by David Weinstein and book by Levis and Weinstein. The show peeks behind bedroom doors and celebrates a kaleidoscope of kinks without nudity or crass language. Ron Bohmer, David Josefsberg, Stephanie Kurtzuba and Jenelle Lynn Randall star.
A hit at the 2002 Fringe Festival, The Joys of Sex, directed by Jeremy Dobrish, opened to mostly negative reviews on May 12 though publications were told not to publish reviews until May 17. Celia Wren in her Broadway.com Review wrote: “In short, if you're in search of entertainment ideas for a bachelorette party, The Joys of Sex was made for you. If not, you might want to say, ‘Not tonight, dear: I have a headache.'”
