MTC Replaces Cruz Play With Four By Tenn

Four by Tenn, an evening of Tennessee Williams one-acts, will play Manhattan Theatre Club's Stage II space beginning on October 19. It takes the place of Nilo Cruz's Beauty of the Father, which will likely be seen at MTC during the 2005-2006 season.
Versions of the evening have had numerous regional productions, including a recent mounting of Five by Tenn which featured five one-acts, not four at the Kennedy Center as part of the theater's Tennessee Williams Explored festival. Michael Kahn directed that mounting and will repeat his duties off-Broadway and three of the one-acts from there will be used in Gotham. They are: And Tell Sad Stories of the Death of Queens…, which follows the story of a New Orleans drag queen, Escape, a compelling work reflective of the mother-and-son relationship found in The Glass Menagerie, and I Can't Imagine Tomorrow, a captivating drama about the friendship between a middle-aged man and woman. The fourth play has yet to be announced.

As previously reported, MTC will also present Jeffrey Hatcher's A Picasso on Stage II. The company's Stage I season will be composed of Charles Busch's Our Leading Lady and John Patrick Shanley's Doubt. MTC is also presenting Craig Lucas' Reckless, Donald Margulies' Brooklyn Boy and Elaine May's After the Night and the Music at the Biltmore Theatre.
