Broadway Stars Ready for Sondheim Revue
This revue of more than 40 songs was first staged at London's Bridewell Theatre in July 2000 under the name Moving On and starred Geoffrey Abbott, Linzi Hately, Belinda Lang, Robert Meadmore and Angela Richards. Its current title, Opening Doors, is the name of a song in Merrily We Roll Along. Songs included at the time were "Opening Doors," "Me and My Town," "Another Hundred People," "Broadway Baby," "Multitudes of Amys," "Old Friends," "Side by Side by Side, "Not a Day Goes By," "Goodbye for Now," "In Buddy's Eyes" and "With So Little to Be Sure Of." Interspersed among the tunes are recorded audio excerpts in which Sondheim shares personal observations about his childhood, his creative life and his career.
Baldwin, a rising star currently appearing as Sarah Brown in Paper Mill's mounting of Guys and Dolls, has been featured on Broadway in The Full Monty and Thoroughly Modern Millie and is also attached to Barry Manilow's Harmony a possible 2004-2005 season entry. Carmello received a 1999 Tony Award nomination and Drama Desk Award for her performance in Parade. Her other Broadway credits include 1776, Falsettos, City of Angels, Kiss Me, Kate and Urinetown. Clark's Broadway credits include Guys and Dolls, A Grand Night for Singing, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Titanic, Cabaret and Urinetown. She appeared in the pre-Broadway tryouts of The Light in the Piazza and is expected to star in the show when it hits Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater next spring. Edelman, who is married to Carmello, earned Tony nominations for his work in City of Angels, Anna Karenina, 1776 and Into the Woods. He is currently appearing in the Broadway revival of Wonderful Town.
