Allan Knee's Syncopation Readies for Broadway

Add another new play to the Broadway season: Allan Knee's Syncopation will begin performances at a theater to be announced on October 2 in preparation for an October 24 opening. Knee is also expected to be represented on the Great White Way this season by the musical Little Women, for which he wrote the libretto.
Syncopation takes place in turn-of-the-century Manhattan and centers on the unlikely romance between an impassioned meat-packer and a soul-searching seamstress who find purpose and love in a Lower East Side make-shift dance studio.

Syncopation won the American Theater Critics Award after premiering at the Long Wharf Theater in 1999 and has played at numerous regional theaters.
The Broadway production will be directed by John Tillinger and choreographed by John O'Connell known for his work on the Baz Luhrmann movies Moulin Rouge! and Strictly Ballroom. The creative team also includes set designer John Lee Beatty, lighting designer Brian Macdevitt and sound designer John Gromada.
