Playwrights Horizons is starting a new annual benefit entitled Stories On Five Stories. For the event, prominent playwrights will create short plays for different rooms in the company's 42nd Street home. Each year will have a different theme; the first one, which will take place on October 18, will be "Haunted."
Each year will feature contributions from eight playwrights. Those participating in the inaugural benefit include Christopher Durang, Wendy Wasserstein, Peter Hedges, Doug Wright, William Finn and Lynn Nottage with two more playwrights to be announced. During the evening, each play will be performed numerous times in the location for which it was written. For example, the Wasserstein play takes place in the women's restroom. So during the evening of October 18, it will run numerous times in the women's restroom of the Playwrights building.
