Imogen Stubbs's We Happy Few is closing in the West End. The play, directed by Trevor Nunn, will shutter on July 31 at the Gielgud Theatre. It had been booking through November.
We Happy Few, which stars Juliet Stevenson, Caroline Blakiston, Kate O'Mara, Patsy Palmer and Marcia Warren, is based on a true story. The show chronicles the tale of seven women who toured Great Britain during World War II performing Shakespeare.
The play opened on July 2 to mixed to negative reviews. In his review of the show, Variety's Matt Wolf wrote: "Collectors of West End crash-and-burns should make a beeline to We Happy Few and the Gielgud Theater, where some distinguished theater folk have joined forces to concoct the most preposterously bad supposedly serious new British play in many a season."
A new tenant for the Gielgud has not been announced.
