Little Women to Open on B'way on January 20

The musical version of Little Women, headlined by Tony Award winner Sutton Foster, will start on Broadway sooner than expected. The tuner, directed by Susan H. Schulman, will begin previews on the Great White Way on December 10 in preparation for a January 20 opening.
This Little Women has been in development for a while. The musical was originally supposed to open on Broadway two seasons ago, but it was postponed as changes in the creative team were made. Jason Howland replaced Kim Oler as composer and Mindy Dickstein took over for lyricist Allison Hubbard. Librettist Allan Knee is the only original creative team member still in place. Little Women was then expected to hit Broadway last spring, following tryouts at Duke and New Haven's Shubert, but the dates were pushed back--ostensibly to accommodate the schedule of star Foster who was still performing in Thoroughly Modern Millie at that time.

In addition to Foster, the cast of Little Women is expected to include Danny Gurwin, John Hickok, Amy McAlexander, Megan McGinnis and Maureen McGovern. However, no casting beyond Foster has been officially confirmed.
The tuner, which recently canceled an engagement in New Haven, will run at Duke University in North Carolina October 7-31 before its Broadway berth. It is rumored to land at a Jujamcyn house.
