Miramax/Mottola Plan Stage Version of The Wall

Pink Floyd's The Wall, a double-concept album that was the source for a film of the same name, may be coming to a Broadway stage. Miramax Films' Harvey and Bob Weinstein and music honcho Tommy Mottola have acquired the rights from Roger Waters Pink Floyd's main creative force to develop the album into a musical, according to Variety.
The Wall recording came out in 1979 after Pink Floyd had already found success with Dark Side of the Moon and other records. The album was named The Wall because it dealt with topics related to the walls both real and imaginary people build around themselves for protection. The recording was wildly successful and the song, "Another Brick in the Wall," became a huge hit worldwide. A film version of The Wall, directed by Alan Parker, was released in 1982. The movie, which featured a script by Waters, centers on a troubled rock star who becomes increasingly isolated from the outside world.
