Expect a Spin City reunion on Broadway this winter. Broadway.com has learned that Richard Kind and Alan Ruck are expected to star in The Producers as the new Bialystock and Bloom beginning January 11.
Kind began performances in Sly Fox on August 17, taking over for Richard Dreyfuss who coincidentally left to star as Max Bialystock in the West End mounting of The Producers. Kind made his Broadway debut in 2002 when he joined the cast of The Tale of the Allergist's Wife. His other theatrical credits include Bounce, The Big Knife, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead, Once Upon A Lifetime, Power Failure, The Seagull, Perfect, Accomplice, Things You Can't Say Past Midnight and True Midwest. The actor is probably best known for his performance as neurotic press secretary Paul Lassiter on Spin City. He was also a series regular on Mad About You and Carol Burnett & Company.
Ruck is currently starring as Leo Bloom in one of the national tours of The Producers. He previously appeared on the Great White Way in Biloxi Blues alongside Broadway's original Bloom, Matthew Broderick. He also appeared on the Gotham stage in The Lucky Spot for Manhattan Theatre Company and Moonchildren at Second Stage. Ruck starred in Spin City as politically incorrect Stuart Bondek, the Mayor's chief of staff. Prior to that small screen stint, he was best known for playing Cameron Frye, the uptight best friend to Broderick's title character, in the hit film Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
The Producers currently stars Brad Oscar as Max Bialystock, Hunter Foster as Leo Bloom, Brad Musgrove as Carmen Ghia, Gary Beach as Roger DeBris, Angie Schworer as Ulla and John Treacy Egan as Franz Liebkind. Beginning August 31, Jonathan Freeman and Brooks Ashmanskas will play Roger DeBris and Carmen Ghia, respectively.
A production spokesperson could not confirm the casting of Kind and Ruck.
