Signature Theatre Company has finally announced a new opening date for its production of Paula Vogel's The Oldest Profession. The show, originally announced to open on September 9, will now have its official off-Broadway bow on September 26.
Set as Ronald Reagan enters the White House, The Oldest Profession centers on five aging practitioners of the oldest profession who are faced with a diminishing clientele, increased competition for their niche market and aching joints.
The production, directed by David Esbjornson, began performances on August 21 and also played on August 22. The show then went on an unexpected hiatus as original star Anita Gillette dealt with a family tragedy. Performances resumed August 31 with Priscilla Lopez replacing Gillette while Marylouise Burke, Carlin Glynn, Katherine Helmond and Joyce Van Patten remained. The Oldest Profession is scheduled to complete its run on October 10.
