Hairspray is eyeing a run in London next year. The show is readying for an October 2005 start at the Cambridge Theater, according to Variety.
Set in 1962, Hairspray centers on Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad, who has only one dream--to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star, but she must use her newfound power to vanquish the reigning teen queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate a TV network, all without denting her 'do!
The show features music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman and a book by Mark O'Donnell & Thomas Meehan. Directed by Jack O'Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, Hairspray won eight 2003 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The Cambridge Theatre is currently home to Jerry Springer - The Opera.
