The musical The IT Girl, which ran at the York Theater in the spring of 2001 and was announced for a fall off-Broadway run, is now aiming for a February opening at Dodger Stages, according to a production spokesperson.
The IT Girl features music by Paul McKibbins, lyrics by BT Nicholl and a book by Michael Small and McNicholl. The story is based on the 1927 Clara Bow film, It, which centered on Betty Lou, a salesgirl who falls for her boss and tries to get him to notice her. The role of Betty Lou was a breakout role for Bow and solidified her popularity in silent films.
The York Theater Company production of The IT Girl, which received mixed reviews, ran from April 17, 2001 through May 27, 2001. An extension to June 10, 2001 was announced but scrapped. Directed by McNicholl, the show starred Jean Louisa Kelly in the title role, Jessica Boevers, Stephen DeRosa, Jonathan Dokuchitz, Susan M. Haefner, Danette Holden and Monte Wheeler.
Casting for this new mounting of The IT Girl is ongoing. Jerry Zaks will serve as production supervisor for the show.
