In his Broadway.com Review of the play, William Stevenson wrote: "Michele Lowe's String of Pearls follows a strand of pearls as they pass from one woman to another. It's an extremely circuitous path, and a far-fetched one as well. Those willing to suspend their disbelief will encounter some intriguing characters along the way, but Lowe introduces so many that it's not always easy to keep track of them all… With Primary Stages' handsome production and the dynamite Mary Testa, String of Pearls sometimes shines. But in the end, Lowe's loosely connected stories don't hold together."
